“Aomori: Where the Mountains Meet the Sea

Aomori sits at the northern tip of Japan’s main island. It has peninsulas, lakes, and long coastlines on both the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. The city of Aomori sits right on the bay, and if you go just a bit inland you’ll find ranges of scenic mountains. Add to all this the large public parks filled with beautiful forests (Aomori literally means “blue woods”), and it’s no exaggeration to say that Aomori shows off the very best of Japanese nature.

Aomori: The Japan of Your Dreams

Aomori has practically everything that a visitor to Japan could want, and that the Japanese prize about their own country: fresh seafood, delicious produce, mountain vistas, deep forests, cherry blossom boulevards, lively summer festivals, gorgeous autumn leaves, snow-capped mountains, hot springs, warm hospitality, and cultural sites stretching back to Japan’s prehistory. Aomori is the Japan you’ve been dreaming of.”

As you can see from the winter picture, there is lot’s of snow. In fact, according to meteorology website AccuWeather it is the snowiest city in the world?!?! With over 300 inches of snowfall a year, it beats out number #2 by twice the amount. They say the northern island of Japan: Hokkaido, gets the powdery snow, whereas, Aomori gets wet, sticky snow that piles up.

Crazy- huh?!? They definitely won’t be canceling school for a half inch of snow like the DMV does. 🙂
